The buyer who shot a woman in the back of the head after meeting up to purchase an iPhone has been arrested and jailed, investigators say. A gas station surveillance video and a phone number helped lead to the arrest of Jermar Roberson, 24, of North Lauderdale, on Thursday, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

The shooting happened Sunday after investigators say Jose Pena, 29, and his fiancé, Keila Fiorentino, 33, used the social media application Offer Up to sell an iPhone 8 for $600.

They met with the stranger, later identified as Roberson, and took him to a Chevron gas station when he told them he needed to withdraw cash from an ATM in order to buy the phone.

But when the couple drove Roberson back to his North Lauderdale home at 1348 Avon Lane, he “began acting strangely” and the couple called off the sale, according to the report. His behavior was not detailed in the report.

As the couple quickly drove away, Roberson fired a shot that hit Fiorentino in the back of the head, striking her right ear but not penetrating her skull.

Fiorentino was treated and released from University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac where two staples closed her wound and, according to the report, she is expected to fully recover.

Efforts to reach Fiorentino and Pena for comment Friday were not successful.

Investigators were able to identify Roberson after checking surveillance images from the Chevron station where the ATM was located, the arrest report said.

Detectives said when Roberson was arrested Thursday they found a cellphone in his bedroom that showed a call placed to the same number used to contact the iPhone sellers, a Taurus .38 caliber handgun and the same clothing that the gunman was reported to be wearing during the robbery.

Roberson is being held without bond on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, shooting into a vehicle, removing a serial number from a firearm and probation violation.
