President Trump’s jabs at Franken hypocritical
There are recent news stories about sexual harassment against women by men in both political parties, the most prominent concerning Alabama Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Sen. Al Franken, of Minnesota.
In interviews and statements, Moore has contradicted himself and has not definitively denied multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct. Many Republicans have withdrawn their endorsements and have asked him to step aside. Democrats have called for an investigation of Franken, with Franken himself calling for and willing to cooperate with an ethics investigation.
President Trump has said nothing about the charges against Roy Moore or whether Moore should step down or be investigated on ethics charges. Trump’s White House counselor Kellyanne Conway explained Thursday that the president is simply preoccupied. “Well the president made a statement when he was in Asia, and he’s been very busy here working on explaining to the country exactly what happened in his Asia trip,” she told Fox News.
But Trump found the time to tweet about a picture of Democrat Al Franken and Leeann Tweeden: “The Al Frankenstien picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. Where do his hands go in pictures 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 while she sleeps?” (10:06 PM-Nov. 16).
If Trump presses Moore to withdraw from the Alabama Senate race because of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, he opens the door to his own responsibility to step down because of his recorded aggressive sexual predation and multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior.
