David Cassidy in critical condition, publicist says
“Partridge Family” star David Cassidy has been hospitalized in Florida and is in critical condition, according to his publicist.
“He is in the hospital suffering from liver and kidney failure,” said Jo-Ann Geffen, Cassidy’s spokeswoman. “He is conscious and surrounded by family.”
Cassidy was taken to the hospital on Wednesday and was put into an induced coma, she said.
Geffen did not disclose the name or location of the hospital. She added that she was not sure whether Cassidy was on any organ donor waiting lists.
Cassidy announced in February 2017 that he was suffering from dementia. He also announced an end to touring to deal with his health.
Cassidy moved to South Florida in 2002 and the past few years have been tumultuous ones for the 67-year-old former teen heartthrob.
In 2010, he was arrested after a Florida trooper observed his vehicle weaving through traffic on the Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County. His blood alcohol level tested above the legal limit.
In 2015, he faced jail time stemming from a hit-andrun. That year, he also went through a divorce with his then wife of 24 years, Susan Shifrin-Cassidy, and a bankruptcy. After filing for Chapter 11, he was forced to sell his Harbor Beach home at auction. The 7,000square-foot residence at 1600 S. Ocean Drive sold for $2 million to a Maryland oncologist.
He plead no contest to reckless driving and other charges stemming from the 2015 traffic incident and was put on probation for two years and ordered to give up his driver’s license until 2021.
Cassidy had previous DUI arrests in Florida, New York and California since 2010.
He was serving a fiveyear probation term for an offense in California at the time of the South Florida accident.
Cassidy is the stepson of actress and fellow “Partridge Family” star Shirley Jones.
