Scott Frost deflects talk of huge Nebraska job offer
PHILADELPHIA — UCF coach Scott Frost batted down a Bleacher Report Tweet from Friday night reporting he was close to signing a seven-year deal worth $35 million with Nebraska.
“That’s just totally false,” Frost said following UCF’s 45-19 win over Temple. “I haven’t paid any attention to all of these whirlwind rumors and everything and I’m not going to. I got an unbelievable team I’m coaching and I can promise you that no decision has been made.”
Frost, a former Nebraska quarterback, has seen his name linked to several coaching vacancies following an impressive season during which the 10-0 Knights have a chance to post the first undefeated regular season in school history just two years after Frost arrived in Orlando.
UCF is Frost’s first head coaching position following a successful stint as Oregon’s offensive coordinator.
Earlier this week, Frost was named one of 16 semifinalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year award.
Lane Kiffin (FAU), Mark Richt (Miami), Paul Chryst (Wisconsin) and Nick Saban (Alabama) are among the semifinalists.
HIGHLIGHT PLAY: UCF’s offense delivered extensive highlight-reel worthy moments but the best, arguably, came from receiver Tre’Quan Smith. Smith made a one-handed catch on one foot on the sideline.
His impressive catch set up a two-yard touchdown run for Dredrick Snelson in the second quarter.
“In all honesty, there’s not a lot of guys in the country that can make that grab,” UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton said of Smith. “He’s probably a top-five receiver in the country in my opinion. He’s been making plays like that all year.”
Milton turned in a strong day himself, connecting on 16 of 23 passes for 208 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. UCF retired Milton toward the end of the third quarter and inserted backup Noah Vedral.
ETC.: Otis Anderson recorded his first receiving touchdown of the season with a 18-yard reception from Milton. … Mac Loudermilk delivered another golf-drive celebration after he blasted a 62-yard punt that pinned Temple on the nine-yard line in the third quarter. The junior punter was voted the Ray Guy Award national punter of the week for his performance against UConn Nov. 11 and delivered a similar celebration against the Huskies. …UCF’s offense recorded a season-low 384 total yards against Temple, which put up 397 yards. The second lowest output came against Maryland with 428 yards. … Pat Jasinski and Chequan Burkett had seven tackles apiece to lead UCF’s defense. Jasinski also finished with his first career interception, one tackle of loss and one pass breakup.
