BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic tunning back Devin “Motor” Singletary added yet another notch to his record-breaking season.

Singletary set the Owls’ single-season mark for rushing yards early in the first half of Saturday’s game against Florida International. He surpassed Alfred Morris’ mark of 1,392 yards set in 2009.

A sophomore, Singletary already owns the FAU record for most touchdowns in a season. He could break Morris’ career touchdown record of 27 in one season.

Singletary, who played at American Heritage-Delray, was recently named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker award. The honor is given to the nation’s top running back.

First touchdown for McGriff

Sophomore receiver D’Anfernee McGriff caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Driskel late in the second quarter.

It was his first score at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. McGriff transferred from Iowa Western Community College.

He entered the game with only two catches for five yards but doubled that output in the first half.

Young back in action

Safety Jalen Young was back in the starting lineup after missing most of last week’s game at Louisiana Tech with a shoulder injury.

A junior, Young is the secondary’s leader in tackles and interceptions.

Woods becoming a contributor

Receiver Kalib Woods continued his improvement since returning after being suspended the first six games of the season.

Woods had three catches for 33 yards in the first half.

“I think it was a time that we started rolling,” said FAU coach Lane Kiffin. “It was a good shot in the arm for us because that was the issue we had had, the passing game. I think he has taken a couple of games to get back into it. Now he is playing really well.”

Woods was suspended for his role in an off-campus fight in January. The Owls revoked his scholarship but allowed him to return as a walk-on.

No Owens for Panthers

FIU receiver Thomas Owens was a late scratch from Saturday’s game because of a knee injury.

An Atlantic High School graduate, Owens is the Panthers’ leading receiver with 59 receptions for 887 yards and six touchdowns. He is considered an NFL prospect.

Senior captains

Playing their final regular-season game at home, center Antonyo Woods, defensive end Haiden Nagel, defensive Nick Internicola and running back Gregory Howell Jr. were the captains.
