Considering a career change was easy for Andrew Zullo, the new executive director of Leadership Broward. He was previously with Regions Bank Dania Beach for 13 years, most recently as a vice president. Through his job, he met people from all walks of life, created lasting relationships and became involved in his community. His mantra is to always be engaged and involved. Those two qualities, Zullo says, are what it takes to make a difference in life, in business and in the community. And he intends to deploy them at Leadership Broward. Why I’m a good fit: Serving is my personal career and life calling. I have been president of the Hollywood Beach Civic Association for the past 10 years, chair of Leadership Hollywood, and past president of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The job: I oversee a staff of three, a group of over 150 volunteers that support our various events and programs and a 30-member board of directors. I communicate with more than 2,500 program graduates.

Strategies

Goal: Continue to grow Leadership Broward as the go-to organization for leadership programs, community engagement and support of other nonprofits in Broward County.

Leadership: Leadership has evolved over the past 30 years from when the leader was driving the direction to a more thoughtful approach of active listening. Listening

and understanding have a greater impact in leadership.

Professional development : My time in various organizations, and community experiences, have contributed to my professional and personal growth, helping me to get to where I am today. Advice to young professionals: Support community dialogue and engagement. Amid the complexities and challenges in life and work, take time to be mentored, trained and develop skills to be public and civil servants.

Wisdom: When you look back, it’s easy to see all of the random connections that bring you to where you are today. Day-to-day decisions that may seem inconsequential become the body of work that is your career and life.
