Thomas all smiles after his blunder

- Safid Deen

TALLAHASSEE — Florida State linebacker Matthew Thomas jumped the route, picked off UF quarterback

Feleipe Franks and saw nothing but daylight. As Thomas ran free, he extended the football out with his right arm at the 5-yard line and dove into the end zone to get a head start on celebrating a 25-yard pick-six touchdown.

Unfortunately for Thomas, the early showboating cost him the second touchdown of his career.

Thomas began his descent a bit too early and his right knee landed at the 1-yard line. It was a comical moment during FSU’s 38-22 win over UF on Saturday in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

While Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was upset about the play during the game, he and other Seminole players could not help but laugh at the sequence after their fifth consecutive win over the Gators.

“I didn’t have a chat [with Thomas]. He listened, I talked,” Fisher said with a smile on his face.

To make matters worse, Thomas earned a penalty for celebrating the touchdown after the play. And the Seminoles’ offense had to take the field at the 16-yard line before scoring their final touchdown of the game.

Thomas was seen on the sidelines, smiling. But he also buried his head in his hands in disbelief after the official’s call.

Thomas was not available to media after the game, but his teammates who were could only laugh at the situation.
