Third suspect sought in death
Investigators believe a third person was involved in the murder of a man who was found in the trunk of a burning car in North Lauderdale.
A man and a woman are already in custody and the third suspect, Jeffrey Harrell, 28, is believed to be in the Miami area, said Joy Oglesby, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff ’s Office.
Darren Butler’s body was found in the early morning hours of Nov. 14 in a car he had bought a month ago. The Pontiac G6 was in flames at Bicentennial Park, 6100 Kimberly Blvd., North Lauderdale.
Investigators have not revealed how Butler, 27, was killed.
Rougiena Deriveire, 18, was arrested Nov. 18 and charged with first-degree murder.
On Nov. 21, Johntavis McCoe, 26, was also arrested and charged with murder.
Harrell has two convictions for robberies in 2009 and 2010, state records show.
Butler’s mother, Sheila Rutledge-Inman, of Fort Lauderdale, said her son had obstacles to overcome but he was an affectionate, loving man. After serving time in Michigan for receiving and concealing a stolen car and attempted assault of a prison employee, she said, he came to Fort Lauderdale to be closer to family.
