Giving gift cards? Get a little extra for yourself

-

Gift cards may seem impersonal, but they continue to be one of the most popular items on holiday lists.

Six in 10 people would like a gift card or gift certificate this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s holiday survey of more than 7,000 consumers.

Gift cards are popular for givers and receivers because they’re easy to buy and they take the guesswork out of giving that perfect gift. During the holidays, many retailers offer bonuses and gifts with purchase so you can get something out of the deal for yourself, too.

Here are a few of my favorite offers:

Amazon.com has a host of savings, including $7.50 off Apple gift cards of $50 or more. Or, get a $15 Amazon credit with purchase of a $100 Bass Pro gift card. Plus, save 20 percent on assorted restaurant gift cards, which change daily. Go to SunSentinel.com/ Amazon to see all the deals.

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is offering a $25 bonus with a $100 gift card purchase, plus a 20 percent off VIP card good Jan. 1-Feb. 13, at BJsRestaurants.com, through Dec. 24.

Get a free knife set and a 10 percent bonus gift from The Capital Grille with purchase of $500 in gift cards at TheCapitalGrille.com.

Chipotle is giving away free burritos, bowls or tacos when you buy one when showing a receipt from a $30 gift card purchase in restaurants through Dec. 24.

Dunkin’ Donuts is giving away a $5 promotional eGift card with purchase of $20 DD Cards at DunkinDonuts.com.

Publix has two coupons to save on a variety of gift cards with $50 grocery purchase. First, save $10 on $50 gift cards for Brinker (Chili’s restaurant), Michaels, Regal Cinemas, BJ’s Restaurants & Brewhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings or Domino’s. The second offer is for $10 off a $50 MasterCard gift card with a $4.95 activation fee. Print the coupons at SunSentinel.com/GiftCards. The offers are good through Friday. 15.
