A seemingly friendly passerby pedaling a bicycle turned into an armed robber in a split second, flashing a gun and forcing a woman in Pompano Beach to withdraw the $200 she had in her bank account, police said.

A woman arriving at work at Sun City Produce, 2230 SW Second St., Pompano Beach, was approached by a man who first said hello and warned her that something was wrong with her car. He then flashed a gun, and shoved her into her black Nissan Sentra at about 7 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the alleged gunman as Julio Acevedo, 46, of Pompano Beach. When Acevedo slipped into the driver’s seat, he took the woman’s cellphone and keys and told her “don’t do anything stupid and follow the rules,” the arrest report said. He then drove her to the nearby Wells Fargo bank and had her log into her account on her cellphone to show him how much money she had.

The account balance was $200, and Acevedo told her to withdraw all of the money, authorities said. When the woman returned with the cash, Acevedo told her to drive to the Isle Casino and wait there for five minutes before returning to her job, the arrest report said.

Before parting, Acevedo took one of the woman’s pay stubs with her address on it and warned her, “Don’t do anything stupid, I know where you live, I know your child and I will kill your family,” the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Acevedo fled on a black and red bicycle, according to a witness. Authorities caught him and the woman identified Acevedo in a photo lineup. His silver teeth and neck and forearm tattoos helped her identify him, authorities said.

Acevedo is charged with robbery with a firearm and kidnapping. He is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
