Linda Niessen, dean and professor of the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, was recently named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She was elected to receive this honor by her AAAS peers. During a recent meeting of the Florida Cabinet, Gov. Rick Scott recognized seven educators with the Governor’s Shine Award, presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education. An honoree included one from South Florida:
Rudy Diaz, Miami-Dade County, who teaches TV Production Media at South Miami Senior High School. Diaz has been at his current school for 26 years. He has won three Emmy Awards for his expertise in editing, camera and producing, and additionally, is the 2017 Miami-Dade County District Teacher of the Year. Cristina Pouza has been named director of student development for Fusion Academy, a private middle and high school with a teacherstudent ratio of one-to-one, at its Miami campus scheduled to open in January. Previously, Pouza was an English language arts teacher at Pinecrest Glades. She was also director of activities at Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School where she directly managed the operation of all campus organizations. Additionally, Amee Hall was named new Master Teacher at Fusion Academy’s Miami campus, after working as the STEM department head at Fusion’s The Woodlands campus in Texas.
