Gary S. Margules, Sc.D., vice president for research and technology transfer at Nova Southeastern University in Davie since 2008, has been named a 2017 Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional accolade bestowed solely to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and welfare of society. Margules’ broad experience has given him an in-depth knowledge in medical devices, therapeutics, biotechnology and diagnostics. Margules has several decades of business experience in technology management, academic technology transfer, strategic planning, corporate ventures, R&D/project management, licensing, regulatory affairs, clinical trials and product development. In the past, Margules worked as a senior scientist with Cordis Corp.; assistant director of technology development with Pfizer Hospital Products; and director, medical technology with Senmed Medical Ventures. Margules spent 15 years with the University of Miami as assistant vice provost for technology transfer and industry research.
Edward Abraham, M.D., has been named executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UHealth-the University of Miami Health System, effective Jan. 1. Abraham, who joined the Miller School of Medicine as dean and chief academic officer in 2017, has been serving concurrently as acting executive vice president and CEO since Sept. 15.
