Kenyan Drake is apologetic for getting tossed from Sunday’s game, but not for defending his teammate.

DAVIE — Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake apologized and exhibited remorse Monday for throwing a helmet and being ejected after a fight in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 22-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills. But Drake also seemed to say he’d do the same thing again if receiver Jarvis Landry was threatened by players from the opposing team.

“I hate that I put myself in that situation, put all of my other teammates in a wrong situation, too, to defend me, defend Jarvis,” Drake said. “That’s just the type of player I am. At the end of the day, I feel like when someone’s trying to get over on one of my teammates, I’m always going to be there, no matter what.”

Drake’s ejection happened after he threw the helmet of Bills defensive end Ryan Davis about 20 yards downfield.

The fight happened after Landry scored a 1-yard touchdown to cut the Dolphins’ deficit to, 22-9, with 6:16 remaining. It appeared the skirmish began with Landry and Bills safety Jordan Poyer.

“I felt like they kind of grabbed on Jarvis, pulled him and you know, the refs didn’t really kind of officiate, I feel like, in a manner to where they didn’t really have the repercussions for the Bills players because they were kind of pushing people at the end of the whistle, things of that sort,” Drake said.

“In the heat of the moment I’m always for my teammates, but I can’t let that get in the way for the detriment of my team. So I felt like that was definitely an out-of-character moment for me.”

Drake said Sunday’s game was a “heated situation, especially from the last game where things got heated that game, too because of the playoff implications.

“At the end of the day, it was definitely stupid on my part just because at the end of the day we still had a chance to win that game. We had just scored a touchdown. There was still plenty of time in the fourth quarter. Hindsight is definitely 20-20.”
