Man kills former classmate at holiday party, police say
Two former high school classmates from Jamaica had a fatal encounter on New Year’s Eve, when one shot the other dead during a Lauderhill house party, police said.
The accused gunman, Shevon “Natty” Salmon, 24, of Miramar, allegedly confessed to firing a handgun at Paul Anthony “Mafia” Nelson, 26, who was sitting on a couch in an apartment in the 5300 block of Northwest 17th Court in Lauderhill.
Police said Salmon didn’t say why he shot his friend, and they have not described a possible motive in court documents.
Until two months ago, Nelson, who has a Bronx, N.Y. address, lived in the 8600 block of Wilshire Drive in Miramar at a home where Salmon now lives.
Before the killing, Nelson had stopped by his former home and Salmon joined him to “smoke” at the Lauderhill party house, according to a police report.
After the gunfire, party guests disarmed Salmon, who left the apartment and took a cab home, he told police.
Nelson was shot multiple times in his chest. Lauderhill Fire-Rescue paramedics said he died at the scene, according to a police report.
Salmon was arrested Tuesday at his Miramar home and faces one charge of premeditated murder. He is in a Broward County jail receiving medical care, and his initial court hearing is pending.
Lauderhill police ask anyone with information about the homicide to call Detective Kaela Allison at 954-497-4700 or Broward County Crime Stoppers, at 954-493-8477. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips and pays up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
