JP unplugs from the Power 96 Morning Show
JP, co-host of the popular Power Morning Show on 96.5 FM, has departed the Miami radio station.
On his Instagram account, the morning personality, whose real name is Yojhans Perez, shared the news with social media followers.
“I have learned so much and have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people at Power 96, I would like to thank each and everyone of you at Power 96 for an amazing 12 years…’’ wrote the West Palm Beach resident. “As of last Friday I have to turn the page on my next chapter in radio and I hope to be back ‘On Air’ before you have time to really miss me.’’
Since November 2016, JP and Lucy Lopez have hosted the morning program from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays as a duo at the Miami Gardens station where they delivered strong ratings among listeners ages 18 to 49 in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami radio market.
Officials at Entercom Communications Corp., which owns the station, did not immediately respond for comment on JP’s exit. Generally, on-air talent at TV and radio stations have a non-compete clause in their contract which prevents them from working at a competitor for a certain length of time.
This month, Lopez has been co-hosting with DJ Zog, another station personality.
JP, a Miami native, and Lopez, a Hialeah native, both grew up listening to the show’s morning drive.
The pair were known for their Spanglish banter, interviewing studio guests and oversharing about their families. Both have young daughters with their spouses.
In between taking calls from South Florida listeners, the hosts anchored the daily “Busted’’ segments where they tried to help a listener with a problem. The hosts also introduced “Carmen,’’ a Latina with an attitude who crank calls people on the show.
Both features remain on the program.
