Danica and Dale, where are you?

-

NASCAR says goodbye (kinda) to two of its iconic stars. Please ignore career stats. We are talking moving the needle in cyberspace and, in Dale’s case, putting fans in seats.

Earnhardt, 43, has retired from full-time racing, although he has said he will be up for a cameo now and then, including the Xfinity Series race at Richmond in the fall. His also found work as part of NBC’s NASCAR crew, which reunites him with former crew chief Steve Letarte.

Earnhardt will also be attending the Pyeongchang Olympics as a contributor for NBC.

As for Daytona, Junior Nation is ecstatic that Earnhardt will be the Grand Marshal for the Great American Race.

Danica, 35, will be in the race as well, although this is her swan song in NASCAR after a disappointing run in which she never found her competitive mojo.

She got the one-race gig this year thanks to Premium Motorsports, which owns a NASCAR charter that guarantees her a spot in the Feb. 18 restrictor-plate scrum. She will re-connect with long-time sponsor GoDaddy for the race.

“I couldn’t have written a better story about how this would all fall into place,” Patrick said recently. “Going with the flow is working out beautifully . ... It all makes my last NASCAR race just that much sweeter.”

She also intends to race in the Indianapolis 500 one more time.
