“We travel to the bigger events — Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale — they just seem to be getting bigger and the interest is growing,” said Mauricio Diaz, an amateur collector who bought about 20 Daredevil and Hulk comics for $95.

He estimated that if he tried to buy the same comics on the internet they would have cost at last four times that amount.

“This event is small, but it’s great because you don’t have thousands of people going through and you can really take the time to find good deals, talk to the vendors,” Diaz said.

One vendor, Steve Dyer, owner of the Yellow Brick Road store in Wilton Manors, had a variety of items on display for sale, from his store. There was a novelty cigarette lighter designed like a vintage firearm, a vintage camera, and several old board games. He also had a silver clarinet from Paris.

“Lots of folks like to collect musical instruments, even if they don’t play, they use them for decoration,” Dyer said. He added that business had been brisk on Saturday, but on Sunday it started off slow.

“It will get bigger, like anything else, when people catch wind of it and see how much fun we had,” Dyer said.
