Shows in Miami and Hollywood

In the wake of the mass shooting that took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, a pair of two-day gun shows are opening their doors to buyers and sellers in Hollywood and Miami over the weekend.

Sponsored by the Gun Show Team of Boca Raton, the Hollywood show is taking place at the German-American Society, 6401 Washington St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Today and Sunday. Items for sale include new and used guns, ammunition, scopes, knives and various accessories. Concealed weapons permit certification classes also will be offered.

An employee said there is no change in the schedule. “These shows are scheduled months in advance, unfortunately,” she said.

Another show in Miami is running at the Fair Expo Center, 10901 SW 24th St. The organizers, Florida Gun Shows of Apopka, confirmed to the Miami New Times that the 600-booth show is proceeding as planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The company has scheduled three shows at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale in March, May and June, according to its website. Its gun shows operate monthly in various cities throughout the state.

In January, the world’s largest gun show, operated by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, moved forward in Las Vegas about four months after a sniper killed 59 people while firing from a high-rise hotel.

The annual convention, known as the SHOT Show, “attracted more than 60,000 people and more than 2,000 companies during its Jan. 23-26 run,” according to the foundation.
