Learn how to help those affected by Stoneman Douglas tragedy
There are many ways to show support for the students, staff and families of Marjory Stoneman Douglash High. From donating blood to attending a rally or simply sending written well-wishes, the school has set up guidelines on how to do so. Also, be wary of fundraising sites that might not be legitimate.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s website, browardschools1.com/ stonemandouglas, has suggested ways the public can help the school and staff heal:
Instead of gifts and individual notes, the school asks that you send a laminated banner with your well wishes to be displayed on campus for the staff, students and community. Make a donation to the official GoFundMe page, GoFundMe.com/stonemandouglasvictimsfund.
If you would like to make an in-kind donation, contact Lori Sessions at lori.sessions@browardschools.com.
Donate blood. South Floridians can donate blood to help those being treated at Broward County hospitals. OneBlood, a Florida blood donation center, has put out a call for donors. It had an urgent need for O-negative blood. Go to oneblood.org
Buy a T-shirt. The Parkland PTA/PTO has organized a fundraiser selling T-shirts online. Proceeds will go to the victims' families, first responders and the Stoneman Douglas High School Memorial Fund. Call 833-472-7552 or go to lovemsd.com Send students to Washington. A GoFundMe account has been set up for Marjory Stoneman Douglas students to fly to Washington, D.C., to speak with the Senate about having a hearing on gun control.
