Witnesses to a hit-andrun crash that left a child with a broken arm followed the driver and called authorities who made an arrest in Fort Lauderdale.

The child was crossing a street outside of a crosswalk near 844 NW 10th Terrace and was hit by a silver 2013 Toyota Corolla about 8:30 p.m. March 16, Detective Tracy Figone said.

The driver didn’t stop, according to an arrest report.

Witnesses kept the Toyota in sight as it traveled a dozen blocks east of the crash to East Sunrise Boulevard and North Andrews Avenue. They stayed with driver Shaneive McLeod, 27, who was arrested, police said.

McLeod had allegedly given police the name of another woman, Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Casey Liening said Friday.

McLeod may face additional charges related to that allegation, Liening said, but none had been filed Friday.

“This is still an active investigation and no further information is available at this time,” Liening said.

McLeod was taken into custody on suspicion of failing to remain at an accident involving serious injury, the report said.

During a bond court hearing March 18, an assistant public defender said McLeod works a minimum wage job at a McDonald’s restaurant and did not have a criminal record.

Judge Stacey Schulman ordered a $10,000 bond and said if McLeod is released, she must wear a GPS monitor.

On Friday, McLeod was still in a Broward County jail.
