Recruits enjoy junior day at UM

Many of the top South Florida high school football prospects in the class of 2019 converged on Coral Gables for the University of Miami’s annual junior day Saturday.

Recruits visited campus, watched the Hurricanes practice and got an opportunity to see first-hand what playing for UM might be like. They came back with rave reviews on the experience.

St. Thomas Aquinas rolled in deep with seven prospects, mostly on defense, making it out.

“I loved it,” four-star cornerback said. “It is always a great time when at UM.

“Just the family aspect of UM. There are only a few schools I have seen that look more like a family than a team… Just being around the DB coaches during practice, they were like a family. Everyone was working to better each other.”

“It was great! I got to hang out with my teammates and see some of my old teammates like [receiver] Mike Harley practice,” St. Thomas linebacker

said. “The overall experience was amazing.”

Davis also enjoyed seeing Harley — as well as being accompanied by UM cornerback signee Al Blades Jr., who is completing his senior year at Aquinas.

“They just had the same message as always: ‘Why not stay home?’ Davis said. “I love the atmosphere down there. I just have to get to see some other schools before I make a decision like that.”

Davis has upcoming visits scheduled with Ohio State on April 6-8 and Oklahoma on April 13-15. Davis last week told the Sun Sentinel that Miami and Florida, his early favorites, still have an edge, but he is open to a list of 11

said: “It was a great experience and I will love to go back there as many times as I can… I love the campus and the way that Miami competes in practice. They always have been a top [school] for me.”

Before coming out officially with a top, Carter wants to take more visits. He is looking to check out Georgia, LSU and Tennessee during his spring break at St. Thomas. Defensive end

said he “learned a lot more information about the defense and the tradition of the program.”

Safety said, “I had a great time. My parents loved it and I loved spending time with staff and the coaches.” Outside linebacker

added: “I already held UM to a high standard, so it didn’t really change my view of them — just reinforced what I already think of them.”

Chaminade-Madonna was also well-represented with committed defensive end joined by Lions defensive backs ,a Kentucky commit, and
