Cooper City, Douglas come up short in title quests
Cooper City couldn’t muster any offense against Lake Region Eagle Lake and then had a rough final inning, losing 12-0 in the championship final of the gold bracket at the Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic on Saturday at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
Cooper City trailed 3-0 entering the seventh inning, when Eagle Lake blew it open with nine runs.
The Cowboys (17-3) reached the final with a 9-3 thrashing of Riverview earlier in the day, propelled by six players with multiple hits.
Leading the way was Adriana Crespo with a 3-for-4 day. Meanwhile, Brenna Lokeinsky and Michelle Adelman had two hits and two RBI each.
Meanwhile, Douglas which started the day in the winners’ semifinals in the prestigious blue bracket, sustained a 17-1 defeat at the hands of Orange Park Oakleaf, and then a 4-3 loss to Gainesville.
The Eagles (11-5) were led by Jacklyn McKenna on the final day as she went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

In the fifth, Charter increased the lead to 5-1 as Erika Andal, Chloe Freire and Eliza Gonzalez had consecutive RBI at-bats. Pines Charter allowed three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but hung on for the win.
St. Thomas Aquinas (16-4), which won its opening game in the blue, left the Osceola Softball Complex on a three-game losing skid.
In a morning game, Eustis, behind a 4-for-4 day by Jayice Michael that included a home run and 6 RBI, pounded the Raiders 7-0. In the evening, Winter Springs rolled to a 13-3 victory.
Meagan Patterson and Lauren Stansell each had three hits on Saturday to stand out for Aquinas.
Bartow played Oakleaf for the blue-bracket title.
