RHP Jose Urena (0-3, 5.57 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) vs. LHP Brent Suter (1-2, 4.87, 1.38): Urena, who led the staff in wins and had the best ERA among Marlins starters in 2017, is off to a disappointing start, with only one quality outing in four starts. He has struggled early in games and has only lasted five innings in each of his past two starts, both losses. Opponents are batting .284 against him, compared to .238 last season. … Suter is a rarity for more than a fastball that averages only 86 mph. He is a Harvard grad who describes himself as a “wannabe environmentalist” and keeps a reusable food tray in his locker to use for postgame meals in lieu of disposable Styrofoam plates. This will be his first career start against the Marlins.

MARLINS NOTES

RHP Odrisamer Despaigne was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm strain and RHP Nick Wittgren was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans. Despaigne, who been a workhorse out of the bullpen, left Thursday’s game after facing two batters in the sixth inning. Wittgren is returning to the majors for the first time since have surgery to remove a bone chip in his right elbow in September. … The bright spot of the Marlins’ 12-3 loss in the series opener in Milwaukee was rookie Lewis Brinson hitting two home runs against his former team. Brinson, who hit two homers in 21 games for the Brewers last season, was in a 1-for-36 slump before connecting off Chase Anderson in his first two at-bats. … RHP Merandy Gonzalez made his MLB debut by tossing two scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and recording one strikeout. The 22 year old was acquired last July from the Mets in the trade for A.J. Ramos.
