ABC, Freeform collaborate on show to air next week.
“Going to school that day was just like any other.’’ Senior David Hogg in a clip from the documentary
Cable network Freeform and ABC News’ “Nightline’’ are collaborating on a documentary called “Parkland: For Our Lives.”
The one-hour documentary features Marjory Stoneman Douglas High students looking back on the Feb. 14 fatal shooting of 17 classmates and faculty members.
“Going to school that day was just like any other,’’ says senior David Hogg in a clip from the documentary. “I was later than I would have liked to have been.”
“It was our first Valentine’s Day together,’’ said junior Victoria Gonzalez of her boyfriend Joaquin Oliver, one of the victims whose nickname was Guac.” “I had to make it perfect.”
“I walked out of the classroom. I said bye to Carmen, not thinking that would be the last time that I’d see her,’’ said senior Ariana Ortega, who lost her friend Carmen Schentrup.
Other students featured are Dillon McCooty, Sam Zeif and Brooke Harrison who recall the gunshots at the school. 911 calls from that day are woven into the documentary.
This is a first time coproduction between the two Disney networks, according to ABC.
Hosted by Elaine Welteroth, former editor-inchief of “Teen Vogue,” the documentary will air at 10 p.m. April 30 on Freeform, formerly known as the ABC Family channel.
