A private haven in Hughes Cove
Estate is one of just eight in prestigious neighborhood
A 10,086-square-foot estate in Coconut Grove’s prestigious Hughes Cove neighborhood has been listed with Engel & Völkers Miami Coral Gables for $16.99 million.
The home, at 3310 Devon Court, sits on land previously owned by business tycoon Howard Hughes.
Hughes Cove consists of just eight homes, according to Lourdes Alatriste, a private office advisor and partner at Engel & Völkers. Whoever purchases the home will have prominent neighbors: Developer Jorge M. Perez, chairman and chief executive officer of Miami’s The Related Group lives there, as does Bernardo Fort-Brescia, a founding principal of Miami architecture firm Arquitectonica.
The subdivision includes a private park, tennis court and small marina with dockage, as well as easy access to private schools and everything else the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami has to offer.
“Hughes Cove is gated and in an incredible location,” Alatriste said. “And you have privacy.”
The three-story gated estate, designed by prominent Miami architect Jorge L. Hernandez, was built in 2003 and has seven bedrooms, seven full and three
half bathrooms, a large living room, billiard room, chef’s kitchen, elevator, infinity-edge pool and a rooftop terrace. It also has a dock at the marina.
“The house is special because of its flow, location and view. You can see the ocean from almost every room in the house,” said Alatriste. “The design is timeless. It’s not modern, it’s not Mediterranean — it’s like a house like Palm Beach.”
Alatriste declined to identify the seller of the property, but public records indicate the home was purchased in August 2015 for $12.85 million and the title is held by N.J. Nicholas Jr., as trustee. Nicholas is the former co-CEO of Time Warner Inc. Alatriste said the seller is relocating to Boston.
“I don’t see too many properties in Coconut Grove — or for that matter, in Coral Gables — of this caliber,” Alatriste said. “It’s not so overwhelmingly big that you get lost, but it’s big enough to have comfort for a family.”
