After telling his estranged wife that he robbed a bank, a Plantation man confirmed his identity when investigators confronted him with surveillance photos of the crime, according to federal court documents.

Marco Cesar Resendiz is the man seen on security images wearing a red T-shirt, bluejeans, a baseball cap and brown workstyle boots when he robbed the PNC Bank branch at 289 S. Pompano Parkway shortly before 1:30 p.m. on May 1, the FBI said.

Resendiz left the bank with $1,399 after handing the teller a note reading “I’M SORRY BUT I NEED A STACK OF $100 and no one will get hurt.” according to the arrest report filed in federal court in Fort Lauderdale.

He was arrested two days later after meeting up with his wife at Broward Health Medical Center and telling her, “I robbed the bank,” the report said. She immediately called police.

“She was aware that Resendiz, 36, was supposed to be attending a drug rehabilitation program in Pompano Beach,” FBI agent Joseph Oliver wrote in the report, while indicating that the married couple of 10 years had not lived together since December.

Later, Resendiz was questioned at the Broward Sheriff’s Office and shown the security surveillance photographs that were taken during the bank robbery.

“That’s me,” he told investigators while also confirming that he wrote the note that was handed to the teller, the arrest report said.

Resendiz, who is facing a federal charge of bank robbery, had an initial court hearing on Friday and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 18.
