“¿Que Pasa, USA? Today...40 Years Later” cast revealed.

The full cast for the live stage production of the sitcom “¿Que Pasa, USA? Today...40 Years Later” has been revealed.

The production, which debuts May 17 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, follows the next generation of the fictional Peña family that was featured in the PBS sitcom from 1977 to 1980.

Described as the first bilingual comedy on American television, the series followed the cultural adventures of the Cuban family in Miami’s Little Havana.

Original cast members from the TV show who are returning for the stage production are Steven Bauer who played teenage son Joe Peña, Ana Margo who played his younger sister Carmen, Connie Ramirez who played her best friend Violeta, and Barbara Ann Martin who portrayed another friend of Carmen’s named Sharon.

Written by Patrick H. Pino, the storyline hasn’t been revealed but there will be new characters playing a mix of new Peña family members, friends and neighbors.

The cast additions include Martha Picanes who plays a character named Encarnación and Vivian Ruiz whose role will be as Asunción. (In the original series, there was a character with that name who played a Santeria practitioner who helped the family deal with a spell of bad luck.)

Miami actor and dancer Grethel Ortiz will play Amber and Rodolfo Jaspe, who looks like a younger Bauer from the original series, will play Joey.

Rounding out the cast are Tania Guzman who will play a character named Barbarita; Ariel Texidó as Yanko; Nick Simmons as Andrew and Eduardo Wasveiler as Raymundo.

The show, which will have nine performances from May 17 to May 26, is a collaboration between Loud and Live, South Florida PBS and the Arsht Center.
