5K Color Run to close streets

Motorists beware. Downtown Fort Lauderdale streets this morning will be blocked by a horde of colorful 5K runners.

Police recommend avoiding the west end of Las Olas Boulevard, Andrews Avenue, Southeast Second Street and surroundin­g areas from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m.

About 4,400 participan­ts are expected in the 5K Color Run, an untimed race in which runners clad in white are doused at every kilometer in a different color of powdered paint.

Specific closures are as follows:

From 3 a.m. to 11 a.m., East Las Olas Boulevard will be closed from Andrews Avenue to Southeast Third Avenue. Intermitte­nt access to Las Olas River House will be allowed.

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., rolling closures will affect the following locations:

Southeast First Avenue will be closed from Southeast Second Street to Huizenga Plaza.

Southeast Second Street between Southeast First Avenue and Southeast Second Avenue. One lane will remain operationa­l.

Southwest Third Avenue between Southeast Second Street and Southeast Sixth Street.

Southwest Seventh Avenue adjacent to Cooley’s Landing Park.

Southwest Seventh Avenue Bridge.

Southwest Fourth Avenue between the Seventh Avenue Bridge and Southwest Seventh Street.

Southwest Second Street between Southwest Seventh Avenue and Southeast Third Avenue.

All detours and street closures are expected to wrap up about 11 a.m.
