TURTLE TIME

Beach walks offer a chance to see nesting.

- By Jennifer Jhon Staff writer

Late-night beachgoers can a see the circle of life in motion in Palm Beach County during turtle nesting season.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s turtle walks begin today and run on select Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights through July 12. The walks start at 8:30 p.m. with a classroom presentation on sea turtles, followed by a walk along the beach. The evening’s program will end at midnight or after a nesting loggerhead turtle is observed, whichever comes first. Children must be at least 8 for turtle walks, and minors younger than 18 must attend with an adult.

See the next stage of the cycle starting July 16 with Gumbo Limbo’s Hatchling Release Program. All ages are welcome at this fun program, which begins in the classroom, followed by a trip to the beach to watch Gumbo Limbo staff release baby sea turtles into the ocean.

The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is at 1801 N. Ocean Blvd. in Boca Raton. Registration is required for both programs and is $17 per person. Visit gumbolimbo.org/Walk -Release.
