Nationals at Marlins

- — Matthew DeFranks

When/where: 7:10 p.m., Marlins Park, Miami ON THE AIR Fox Sports Florida; Radio: 940-AM, 710-AM (Spanish) ON THE MOUND Nationals RHP Max Scherzer (7-1, 1.78 ERA, 0.853 WHIP) vs. Marlins RHP Jose Ureña (0-7, 4.55 ERA, 1.221 WHIP): Ureña will try to shake the winless record he’s dragged through the first two months of the season when he takes on the Nationals on Friday night. Ureña leads the majors with seven losses and is the only pitcher with double-digit starts to have zero wins. The Marlins are 0-10 in games Ureña started, but he’s received a major-league low 2.20 runs of support per game. In his last start against Atlanta on Saturday, Ureña gave up four runs in six innings. He only managed three swinging strikes, the fewest this season for the 26-year-old. … Scherzer, meanwhile, continues his reign as one of the best pitchers in baseball. He leads the majors with 104 strikeouts and has double-digit strikeouts in his last three starts. The two-time Cy Young winner has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his 10 starts this season. Among current Marlins hitters, Martin Prado (1.000 on-base plus slugging percentage in 31 plate appearances) has hit Scherzer well, while J.T. Realmuto (.150 OPS in 20 PAs) has not.
