Dan Stone had been CEO before Office Depot acquisition
BOCA RATON — After only two months, the top executive at Office Depot’s $1 billion acquisition, CompuCom, has resigned.
Boca Raton-based Office Depot revealed Dan Stone’s resignation, effective June 6, in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
“Dan Stone is departing the organization to pursue other interests,” Office Depot spokesman Danny Jovic said in a statement.
Greg Hoogerland, currently CompuCom’s chief customer officer, will assume the role of acting president of CompuCom, Jovic said.
Stone was named president of CompuCom in April. He had been CEO of the company before it was acquired by Office Depot in November 2017. Before joining CompuCom, Stone was president and general manager of Lenovo Latin America.
Office Depot CEO Gerry Smith also is a former Lenovo Group executive and was hired in January 2017 to reinvigorate Office Depot.
In the 16 months since joining Office Depot, Smith has shaken up the leadership team, recruiting executives he worked with at tech company Lenovo, as well as local talent. Those leaving have included the chief administrative officer, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
Meanwhile, Smith has been working to implement a new strategy for Office Depot, which has had declining retail sales for decades and sagging business sales since its court battle to merge with competitor Staples ended in 2016. While hardly a turnaround, Office Depot’s first-quarter sales rose by 6 percent over a year ago, driven by a small increase in business and government sales.
Smith discussed the new strategy when Office Depot announced its purchase of CompuCom, which some Wall Street analysts considered a hefty acquisition for the struggling retailer.
