American Heritage sprinter Anthony Schwartz was named Florida’s Mr. Track, an award given to the state’s top track and field athlete, on Wednesday.

Schwartz won the award, presented by Florida Dairy Farmers, after setting record times at the state track and field championships last month. The senior who signed to Auburn, where he will run track and play wide receiver for the football team, ran the 100 in 10.07 seconds and the 200 in 20.41 — both the fastest times in the nation this season.

Schwartz anchored the Patriots’ state-best 4x100 relay team, which ran a top time of 40.14 at the state meet in Jacksonville.

It was redemption for Schwartz after he was hobbled by a hamstring injury while competing at states as a junior, unable to win any of the events after striking state gold four times as a sophomore — the aforementioned three and on the 4x400 relay team.

Jacksonville Bolles’ Caitlin Collier won the Miss Track award. St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore Zatoria Thompson, who won the 100 and high jump at the state meet, was the Class 4A finalist but finished fourth in the voting.

Broward County swept the two Coach of the Year awards. Hallandale’s John Battle and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Alex Armenteros were honored after

each led their teams to state titles — Battle having his boys and girls win in Class 2A and Armenteros with his girls team in 4A.

The Chargers’ individual state title winners were Milton Ingraham (discus, shot put), Amari Johnson (300 hurdles) and the 4x400 relay on the boys’ side. Their girls saw Sydney McGinley (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Amani Heaven (discus), Destiny Castillo (long jump) and Takira Williams (triple jump) win titles, along with the 4x400 relay.

The Raiders’ girls, in addition to Thompson’s two wins, got individual victories from Jermecia Brown (400) and Eddiyah Frye (100 hurdles) at state.
