Broward OKs new lease for children’s museum

Here’s what the Young At Art Museum is getting in a new deal with Broward County: A lower rent, a 10-year lease and the ability to raise money by selling the naming rights to its countyowned home.

Here’s what it can’t have: Live displays of human nudity and exhibits of artwork that focus on naked people.

For operators of the Davie children’s museum that draws about 150,000 visitors annually and also runs a preschool, the prohibitions were no big deal. Nudity and naked figures aren’t the art it plans to expose youngsters to.

“There has never been a performance at Young At Art that involved live nudity, nor would there be in the future,” said attorney Bruce Green, representing the museum.

The same goes for nude artworks, Green said, although — given the nature of art — he would not rule out all nudity.

“It could be incidental to an exhibit, but it would not be the dominant theme of the exhibit,” Green said. Under the agreement, those displays would have to have prominent signs warning of potentially unsuitable content for children.

Assistant County Administrator Alan Cohen said because the museum could hold special
