Lisa Namour has been the general manger of Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach, a DoubleTree by Hilton, since February, where she was most recently director of sales and marketing. Being passionate about employees and community makes Namour a good fit for the job, she says. As general manager, Namour has the opportunity to mold and develop a strong culture through internal talent that, when done correctly, impacts the guests’ experience to improve both Hilton and Bahia Mar’s future, she says. Additionally, it’s important to be involved in community and engage the property wherever possible to “give back,” says Namour.

How I got to “now”: I have over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to Bahia Mar, I began my career and had a great leadership experience with the food and beverage program for the Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training facility in Vero Beach. What came next was the opportunity to work with leading top hotel brands in sales and marketing, and opening and transitioning several properties.

On the job

What I do: I lead a team of more than 150 people, interfacing with both guests and staff to insure a successful experience for everyone. I support the goals of the organization and ownership inclusive of fiscal responsibility, and the care for the plant.

Industry wisdom: Teamwork and communication is key to building a successful hotel operation.

What’s new: The way we negotiate, third party involvement, added generations, guests interpretation and knowledge has become extremely savvy.

Professional development: Networking both within the Hilton Brand and with other like brands in the principal role you hold is very valuable. Mentoring and having mentors to align with are equally important for your growth. Being involved in the community and always being open to change and discovery.

Advice to young professionals: Don’t skip the experience portion as you enter into the world of hospitality. The more experience in different areas you can obtain on your way to becoming a leader in the industry will serve you well. There is no job less important than another in a hotel, they are all equally important. Take the time to see what area fits.
