Another Marlins prospect will step into the spotlight this month.

Right-hander Jorge Guzman, acquired from the Yankees in the trade that sent Giancarlo Stanton to New York, will play in the Futures Game in Washington on July 15, Major League Baseball announced Friday afternoon. The 22-year-old Dominican will play on the World Team in the game that starts at 4 p.m. and will be televised on MLB Network.

Guzman is ranked as the franchise’s second-best pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline, behind right-hander Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara made his first major league start against the Mets on June 29, but then landed on the disabled list with a right armpit infection.

Guzman has spent this season with High-A Jupiter and owns a 3.05 ERA in 13 starts. He has struck out 8.5 batters per nine innings, though he’s walked 5.3 batters per nine innings. Guzman came to the Marlins organization along with Starlin Castro and minor league infielder Jose Devers in exchange for Stanton in December.

Current Marlins third baseman/right fielder Brian Anderson and right-handed reliever Tayron Guerrero represented the organization in last year’s Futures Game in Miami. Left-hander Jarlin Garcia was on the World Team in 2015.

Center fielder Lewis Brinson played in the Futures Game last year, when he was in Milwaukee’s farm system. The Brewers traded Brinson to Miami as part of the Christian Yelich deal.

Marlins pitching prospects have taken center stage in the last week. Alcantara made his highly anticipated Marlins debut since an offseason trade from St. Louis. Right-hander Pablo Lopez made his major league debut last week and the 22-year-old Venezuelan has stuck in the Marlins rotation.

Coral Springs native and American Heritage-Plantation graduate Shaun Anderson also will play in the Futures Game, but for Team USA. The right-hander in the San Francisco organization has a 3.56 ERA in 16 starts for Double-A Richmond.
