Estate homes, airpark proposed in Wellington
Average house on Flying Cow Ranch Road would take up about 3 acres of land
A residential development with its own airpark is being proposed on 150 vacant acres in Wellington.
Situated on the western corner of Flying Cow Ranch Road, and appropriately named Flying Cow Ranch, the development would feature 30 estate homes and an airstrip, according to submitted plans by Wantman Group Inc. The average Flying Cow home would take up about 3 acres of land. Barns would be allowed on lots, too.
Damian Newell, Wellington’s senior planner, said the proposal still needs to be scheduled before the Planning, Zoning & Adjustment Board. The Village Council had approved annexing 2.8 acres of land into Wellington from unincorporated Palm Beach County in June 2016, which will be part of the 150-acre project.
The project would abut the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and the upscale Palm Beach Point community where homeowners often have their own stables. The nearest schools are about six miles away.
Flying Cow Ranch would be Wellington’s second residential development with its own airpark. The Wellington Aero Club is a private airpark community of 248 estate homes that each have 1 acre of land. Some have their own hangar. In the center of the community is a 4,000-foot lighted runway.
