Tannehill sports new knee brace ‘2.0’

DAVIE — The brace on Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s left knee has a label on the back that reads “Tannehill 2.0.”

But Tannehill, who is coming back after a pair of season-ending knee injuries — the first in December 2016, and the second last August — said the label doesn’t represent a newer, more updated version of Tannehill. It refers to the brace.

“Honestly I didn’t even notice it until today,” he said after Thursday’s opening practice of training camp. “I looked down.”

“I think they’ve made like four or five different braces for me to try out, and have backups of backups in case one gets bent or whatever. So [it’s] just the way they labeled them so they can keep them straight.”

That’s not exactly the fun answer, but it seems to be the truth.

In fact, Tannehill said this isn’t even necessarily “Tannehill 2.0.”

“I’m not a lot different, honestly,” he said. “The brace is there just to prevent the injuries from the hit, the contact. It doesn’t do much for stability or anything like that. The contact, which kind of started this whole balling rolling against Arizona in 2016, the brace is there to prevent that.”

So, just to be clear, the “Tannehill 2.0” on the back of that knee brace represents different versions of the braces that have been made for Tannehill, not a new beginning.

“It refers to the brace,” Tannehill said with a laugh. “I had nothing to do with that.”
