DE Harris impresses with a pair of sacks

- By Omar Kelly Staff writer On Twitter @omarkelly

MIAMI GARDENS – Saturday was day 9 of the Miami Dolphins training camp, and this is how Saturday’s scrimmage at Hard Rock Stadium played out:

Stock up

With Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn having their participation limited, Charles Harris got a chance to shine and the Dolphins’ 2017 first-round pick produced two sacks. On one play he got the best of Laremy Tunsil to disrupt Ryan Tannehill, and on another Harris blew past Mike Gesicki for a play that would have probably produced a strip fumble if the action were live because Tannehill never saw him coming . ...

WR Rashawn Scott, who has spent the past two years on the Dolphins’ 53-man regular-season roster or practice squad, has put together three consecutive days of strong practices, reminding the coaches why the franchise has invested in him the past two seasons. Scott caught two passes during the scrimmage, and one was a 48-yarder from Bryce Petty that put the Dolphins in scoring territory . ...

LB Kiko Alonso blew up two Kalen Ballege runs, making stops in the backfield for losses.

Stock down

Adam Gase has fielded one of NFL’s most undisciplined teams the past two years. Last year pre-span penalties handcuffed the offense, and cutting down on them is a major point of emphasis this camp. But the Dolphins committed five in the scrimmage (three false starts, an offsides, and a delay of game penalty), which shows that the problem lives on. Gase needs to find a better strategy to get his team to pay more attention to detail than gassers as a punishment . ... Rookie kicker Greg Joseph missed a 52-yard field goal, and finished the scrimmage 1 for 2 while

Jason Sanders made both his attempts, with a 47-yarder being the longest . ...

Scrimmage observations

LB Stephone Anthony, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux and cornerback Cordrea Tankersley worked with the starting defense during the scrimmage . ...

WR Jakeem Grant returned a kickoff 45-yards for the opening play of the scrimmage, setting the offense up at midfield . ...

QB Brock Osweiler completed 7-of-7 passes for 50 yards and threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Drew Morgan at the end of the scrimmage for the offense’s only score . ...

QB Ryan Tannehill threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki during 7-on-7s . ...

Injury update

DE William Hayes (hamstring), TE A.J. Derby (foot), C Jake Brendel (calf ), WR Isaiah Ford (shoulder) were held out of the scrimmage.
