Florida State receiver Keith Gavin has an ambitious goal for the season — 10 touchdowns.

BRADENTON — Florida State receiver Keith Gavin has yet to reach the end zone in his two seasons with the Seminoles, but has an ambitious goal he hopes to reach as a junior this season.

“I plan on scoring at least 10 touchdowns this year — that’s my goal,” Gavin said earlier this week during FSU’s practices at IMG Academy.

“I always try to set goals for myself. I feel like I’m capable of doing it. I know I can do it. And I know I will. That’s just one of my goals for the season.”

Gavin’s impact has been felt more as a return man for the Seminoles, as his memorable 66-yard kickoff return during the 2016 Orange Bowl put FSU in position to score the go-ahead touchdown to beat Michigan.

Gavin has appeared in 18 games during his FSU career, mostly on special teams as a freshman in 2016 before breaking into the receiving rotation last season.

He started with a productive outing of seven catches for 50 yards against Alabama, but knee and ankle injuries hampered him despite appearing in 10 games last season. Gavin finished with 27 catches for 278 yards.

Behind senior Nyqwan Murray, Gavin and fellow junior George Campbell could be depended on to provide a prominent red-zone threat for the Seminoles in new coach Willie Taggart’s offense this season.

Gavin says he has focused on his game and cultivating better chemistry with FSU’s quarterbacks during this offseason.

“I feel like I’m doing pretty good,” Gavin said. “Everybody has gotten way better since the first day of camp. Everyone has got the offense down. So we’re moving fast and making big plays.”

As far as his personal goals this season, Gavin feels he could be in store for a breakout season.

“It’s about to happen,” he said. “I’m ready.”

DE Lawson dismissed

Florida State reserve defensive end

Tre Lawson has been dismissed from the program.

Lawson has not been with the team since he got into a fight with starting offensive lineman Jauan Williams during practice on Aug. 7, which ended with Lawson throwing punches.

“Tre didn’t make the trip. Tre is no longer with us,” coach Willie Taggart told reporters on Thursday before FSU finished its fourth preseason practice at IMG Academy.
