Cumby’s store openings postponed

Launching of ‘next generation’ locations in Margate and Coral Springs pushed to October

Cumberland Farms has postponed openings of two new “next generation” stores in Margate and Coral Springs that were scheduled for this week.

The Coral Springs store, at 8900 Wiles Road, just east of University Drive, is now scheduled to open Oct. 17, and the company plans an Oct. 19 opening for the Margate store at 5485 W. Atlantic Blvd., just west of State Road 7, a spokeswoman said Monday. Last week, the company had announced plans to open the stores on Sept. 27 and 29, respectively.

They will be the Westborough, Mass.-based company’s first two South Florida stores to feature what it calls its “next generation” concept — which includes madeto-order beverages and hot meals served on demand over a high-top bar counter. Customers will place their orders at self-service, touchscreen terminals and be served by staff members.

Available beverages will include smoothies, frozen espresso and milkshakes, plus specialty coffee drinks such as espressos, cappuccinos and lattes.

Food options will include breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pizza, frittatas, mozzarella sticks, macaroni and cheese bites, and roller grill items such as hot dogs. Cold sandwiches will be available as well.

At about 5,000 square feet each, both stores are larger than typical Cumberland Farms stores, with more fuel pumps, more parking spaces and outdoor patio seating.

Cumberland Farms operates nearly 50 stores in Florida and more than 500 across seven Northeastern states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, New York and Vermont.
