Davis sticks with OU

- By Adam Lichtenstein

The Oklahoma Sooners fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops on Sunday after losing 48-45 to rival Texas. But fortunately for Oklahoma, it looks like one of their premier South Florida commits doesn’t seem to be changing his mind.

Jaden Davis, a four-star defensive back recruit from St. Thomas Aquinas, tweeted about his commitment to the Sooners: “I stand by this through it all, Boomer Sooner...”

The St. Thomas defensive back is the only commit from Broward or Palm Beach counties on the defensive side of the ball for Oklahoma. Deerfield Beach junior running back Jaylan Knighton is also committed to the Sooners.

Like many top college programs, Oklahoma heavily recruits South Florida. Here are the players from Broward and Palm Beach County who currently hold offers from the Sooners, according to 247Sports:

Mike Morris (American Heritage-Delray); Kaiir Elam (Benjamin); Khris Bogle (Cardinal Gibbons); Te’Cory Couch, Willie Moise, Keontra Smith, Cameron Williams (Chaminade-Madonna); Ge’mon Eaford, Deajaun McDougle (Deerfield Beach); Jordan Battle, Devon Betty, Jahmar Brown, Marcus Dumervil, Braylen Ingraham, Semar Melvin, Anthony Solomon, Derek Wingo (St. Thomas Aquinas); Kenny McIntosh, Josh Sanguinetti (University School); Mark-Antony Richards (Wellington). Standout receivers working recruiting game: Deerfield Beach’s Deajaun McDougle and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Marcus Rosemy are both juniors, but they’ve been heavily recruited for years. But neither is in any rush to pick a future school.

“It’s been kind of crazy, but I don’t let it get to my head,” Rosemy said. “I’m focused on the season.”

Rosemy is rated a fivestar prospect and the No. 28 player (and No. 4 wide receiver) in the 2020 class in the 247Sports composite rankings. He has offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State and more.

McDougle is a three-star prospect and has received offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan and more.

“Taking it slow now,” McDougle said. “Hopefully, I’ll visit Penn State soon.”
