New 37-story tower is all about the art

latest residential tower is supposed to be a work of art, literally.

The new Canvas Miami — a 37-story tower with 513 condos — has 225 original pieces of art commissioned by 22 artists, including 150-foot wall murals and framed prints.

The artists were given the freedom to choose what they wanted to paint based on the style of their art, so the themes range from landscape impressionist to graphic work. The idea is the building itself is a “canvas.” “It really gives a platform for artists from around the world to express themselves,” said Ron Gottesmann, co-owner of real estate investment company N.R. Investments, which developed the project. “Each one is coming with his own style, and this is the beauty in all of them.”

Residents are expected to begin moving in Jan. 7. Canvas Miami, at 1630 NE First Ave., has a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom residences ranging in size from 650 square feet to 1,205 square feet. Prices range from $386,200 to $630,000.

Gottesmann’s company also developed the the same art concept at Filling Station Lofts, a 10-story, 81-unit rental apartment building in Miami in 2014. He said it was such a success that they decided to go bigger — and get into condos.

The art ranges from freestyle pieces done in the artist’s signature style, or chalkboard art, which encourages residents to use the walls and collaborate. Materials used vary from chalk, aerosol, spray paint, oil, latex and acrylic.

Canvas Miami is within the city’s Arts and EnterMiami’s tainment District, which is considered an emerging residential neighborhood connecting the Wynwood Arts District and Design District to downtown Miami.

Amenities at Canvas Miami include sunrise and sunset pool decks, an indoor and outdoor yoga garden, a gym, racquetball court, zen spa and sauna treatment rooms, a multimedia screen theater, squash fields, a poker room, and a children’s playroom.
