AROUND THE NFL

-

Browns: GM John Dorsey says the team has not discussed former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as a candidate for its coaching vacancy. Rice is an avid Browns fan and has visited the team’s headquarters on numerous occasions in recent years. On Sunday, Dorsey issued a statement praising Rice as a “great leader” and said he has “the utmost respect and admiration for all she’s accomplished.” Dorsey said the team is composing a list of candidates “and Secretary Rice has not been discussed.” ESPN had reported that the team would like to interview Rice for its coaching job.

Buccaneers: The Bucs’ quarterback merry-goround may be in motion again. After starting Ryan Fitzpatrick for the first four games, switching to Jameis Winston for the next three and going back to Fitzpatrick for the last three, coach Dirk Koetter is at a crossroads again. Fitzpatrick started and was lifted in the third quarter after throwing three interceptions. Koetter refused to say who would start Sunday at home against the 49ers. He had weighed going back to Winston this week. “It was close,” Koetter said. “I told you all along, his day was going to come back.”

Redskins: Adrian Peterson ran for two touchdowns to continue climbing the NFL rushing chart but was bottled up on a lot of his other carries. Peterson’s 3- and 7-yard touchdown runs gave him 105 in his career and moved him past former Redskins star John Riggins into sole possession of sixth place all time, one behind Jim Brown. Peterson finished with 51 yards on 16 carries.

Titans: The Titans’ biggest question coming out of Sunday’s game was the health of defensive coordinator Dean Pees, who was taken to a nearby hospital during the first quarter. “Dean’s doing OK . ... They evaluated him, and they’re going to keep him overnight for some tests,” coach Mike Vrabel said. “Everything that I’ve heard has been very positive.” Without Pees, the Titans’ usually strong defense didn’t look like itself. Andrew Luck carved up the Titans, and the Colts jumped to a 24-0 lead.

Notable injuries: Titans QB Marcus Mariota (right elbow); Texans G Zach Fulton (shoulder), G Senio Kelemete (ankle); Lions RB Kerryon Johnson (left knee); Giants DL Kerry Wynn (concussion); Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard (ankle); Jaguars RG A.J. Cann (hamstring); Chargers DT Corey Liuget (knee); Broncos WR DeSean Hamilton (knee), CB Bradley Roby (concussion); Eagles C Jason Kelce (left elbow), S Avonte Maddox (knee), DB Rasul Douglas (leg), LS Rick Lovato (concussion); Saints RG Larry Warford (concussion).
