DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins have added rookie defensive back Chris Lammons to their practice squad, and the former Plantation High standout hopes to make the most of his opportunity to impress his hometown team.

“Growing up a Miami Dolphins fan, it’s like a dream come true,” said Lammons, an undrafted rookie safety out of South Carolina. “I’m going to put my best effort into it and see where I can go from there.”

Lammons was contacted by the Dolphins on Tuesday and worked out for the team early Wednesday before participating in Wednesday’s practice.

Lammons was released by the Atlanta Falcons after the preseason, but not before making an impression on the Dolphins.

He intercepted Dolphins quarterback David Fales on a pass intended for receiver Isaiah Ford during the last preseason game on Aug. 31.

After his time with the Falcons, Lammons spent four weeks on the New Orleans Saints practice squad before landing with Miami.

“They like the way I move. They expect a lot out of me on special teams and defense. So I’m just going to grind,” Lammons said of his talks with Dolphins coaches. “It’s a learning experience for me in my first year.”

Lammons said playing for coach Will Muschamp at South Carolina “was the best experience of my life.” In four seasons with the Gamecocks, he had four interceptions, 17 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles with 177 tackles.

Lammons totaled nearly 2,400 total yards with 22 touchdowns as a high school quarterback, leading Plantation to an 8-3 record and second-round playoff run as a senior in 2015. He still has a strong relationship with Plantation coach Steve Davis.
