Lateral movement a problem due to right knee injury
DAVIE — The injuryplagued Miami Dolphins could be without receiver Danny Amendola and center Travis Swanson in Sunday’s home game against the Buffalo Bills.
Both are listed as doubtful as the Dolphins (5-6) look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Amendola, who is dealing with a right knee injury, will go through a workout on Saturday with hopes of being cleared, Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Friday.
“He can run straight, but we’re waiting to see lateral movement,” Gase said. “We’ll be able to work on some things [Saturday], and see how he feels.”
Amendola has not practiced with the Dolphins all week, but has made strides doing individual work. He worked with a trainer on the sidelines Friday for the second straight day during the portion of practice open to the media.
Amendola sustained the injury in the first quarter against the Colts last week, and was able to return to the game on a limited basis.
If Amendola is able to play, he could serve as the primary punt returner, while attempting to be a viable receiver in the passing game against the Bills (4-7).
If Amendola is unable to play, the Dolphins will rely on Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker, Leonte Carroo, Isaiah Ford and Brice Butler to carry the receiving load.
The Dolphins could also be without Swanson, who has started seven games, because of an ankle injury.
Swanson did not practice Friday, after being a limited participant in practice Thursday.
“It’s a wait and see,” Gase said of Swanson. “We’ll get to Sunday and figure that out.”
The Dolphins will likely have third-year offensive lineman Jake Brendel start at center, while Ted Larsen returns to left guard.
Dolphins receiver DeVante Parker (shoulder) and tight end A.J. Derby (foot/knee) are both questionable to play against the Bills.
