Scuffling Pack fire McCarthy after loss
The Packers fired coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday and named offensive coordinator Joe Philbin the interim head coach.
Team President Mark Murphy announced the move after a stunning 20-17 loss to the Cardinals, dropping the Packers to 4-7-1.
McCarthy was in his 13th season as coach, going 125-77-2. The Packers won the Super Bowl under McCarthy in the 2010 season.
Zane Gonzalez kicked a 44-yard FG with 1:41 left before Mason Crosby missed from 49 as time expired, handing the Packers their third straight loss.
The Texans intercepted Baker Mayfield three times to extend their franchiserecord win streak to nine. Deshaun Watson threw a TD pass, and Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked five FGs.
Todd Gurley ran for 132 yards and two TDs as the Rams won the NFC West for the second straight season. Jared Goff had a TD pass, an INT and a fumble. Greg Zuerlein kicked three FGs.
Tom Brady passed for 311 yards and a score, while Bill Belichick won his 250th game as Pats coach. The Pats have won eight of nine and clinched their 18th straight winning season.
Aldrick Rosas kicked a 44-yard FG in OT, snapping the Bears’ winning streak at five. The Giants blew a 10-point lead in the final 1:13 on a FG and RB Tarik Cohen’s 1-yard scoring pass to Anthony Miller as time expired.
Patrick Mahomes threw four TD passes to join Peyton Manning and Brady as the only QBs to reach the 40-TD mark through 12 games. Two went to Travis Kelce, who had 12 catches for 168 yards, topping 1,000 yards for the third straight season.
Russell Wilson threw four TD passes and Bobby Wagner returned an INT 98 yards in the Seahawks’ third straight win. Wilson has thrown at least two scoring passes in eight straight games.
Rookie QB Lamar Jackson ran for a TD in the Ravens’ third straight win. The defense held the Falcons to 131 total yards, their fewest since 1999. Tavon Young scored after scooping up a fumble by Matt Ryan.
Jameis Winston went 20-for-30 for 249 yards and two scores with no turnovers in the Bucs’ second straight win. Andrew Adams had three of the Bucs’ four INTs of Cam Newton, who was sacked four times.
Rookie Phillip Lindsay ran for a career-high 157 yards and a pair of TDs in the Broncos’ third straight win.
Backup QB Cody Kessler won for the first time in nine career starts as the Jaguars snapped a seven-game skid and ended the Colts’ win streak at five.
Marcus Mariota threw an 11-yard TD pass to Corey Davis with 36 seconds left as the Titans rallied from a 16-point deficit and ended a two-game skid.
Ryan Tannehill’s three TD passes helped the Dolphins snap a two-game slide.
The Chargers were without RB Melvin Gordon (knee). He has run for 802 yards and nine TDs. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had 12 INTs.
