The “Last Chance U” star on Florida Atlantic’s roster will be finishing his college career elsewhere.

Quarterback De’Andre Johnson announced on Twitter on Sunday he will be transferring. He expressed gratitude toward FAU for accepting him during what he called “an important time in my life.”

Johnson did not include the school he will transfer to in his statement.

Originally enrolled at Florida State out of high school, an incident in which Johnson punched a woman at a bar sent him off the Seminoles and landed him at East Mississippi Community College, where he was featured on the popular Netflix series “Last Chance U,” before arriving at FAU.

Johnson was part of a three-man quarterback competition in the preseason that was won by redshirt freshman and Oklahoma transfer Chris Robison. He did see playing time in relief of Robison in multiple games this past season, most notably the 49-14 win over rival FIU. His secondquarter insertion into the Shula Bowl game ignited the Owls offense to a 42-7 run to finish the game in one of the few bright moments of a 5-7 season.

A run-first quarterback, Johnson had 209 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries during a two-year stint with FAU where he played in nine games. He also completed 15-of-26 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. His first season with the Owls was halted by emergency surgery for blood clots in his arm that September.

According to Johnson’s statement, he’ll be a graduate transfer wherever he goes and have two years of eligibility left.

With Johnson transferring and grad transfer Rafe Peavey out of eligibility, FAU’s quarterback room next season will include Robison, the incumbent starter and rising sophomores Nick Tronti and Cordel Littlejohn.

Dwyer quarterback Gio Richardson is committed to the Owls and their 2019 recruiting class.
