Incentives for two ‘secret’ projects to be discussed

Fort Lauderdale city commissioners are slated Tuesday to discuss more than $200,000 in incentive awards for two projects that could bring two new headquarters and jobs to the city.

One project is the expansion of an undisclosed marine equipment manufacturer that would establish a U.S. headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.

The company would create 20 jobs at an average annual salary of $55,990, according to the city resolution proposing the a city contribution of 20 percent, or $20,000, of the total $100,000 incentive package with the state.

The marine company already has a presence in Broward, said David Coddington, vice president of development for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.

The second is for the corporate headquarters of an undisclosed national retail and service center. Coddington said that company has operations throughout the country and is especially attractive to the county because of its high wages.

The project would create 18 jobs with an average annual salary of $97,374, according to the city.

Fort Lauderdale would provide up to $25,500, or 20 percent of a $126,000 incentives package with the state.

The incentives for both projects would be in the form of tax refunds and only paid when job creation by the company is confirmed by the state.

Company relocations and expansions are kept confidential until the business signs incentive contracts with state and local government.
