Amazon data shows South Florida full of procrastinators

- By Johnny Diaz

Is South Florida full of holiday gift-buying procrastinators?

It sure looks that way, considering Miami ranked third among cities with the most last-minute Amazon Prime Now deliveries on Christmas Eve.

That’s according to the online retail giant, which says that its customers broke records with more items ordered this holiday season compared to last year. Overall, more than 1 billion items were delivered for free with the company’s Prime service. Amazon’s Prime Now offers delivery service within two hours.

San Francisco led the list of cities for those wait-until-the last minute holiday orders, followed by Austin, then Miami, Dallas-Fort Worth and Springfield, Virginia.

We shouldn’t really be surprised by Miami’s high ranking on that list. We’re known for being fashionably late to Heat games, theater events, nightclubs and work (you know who you are).

What was the last Prime Now delivery on Christmas Eve?

The company said that delivery took place at 11:30 p.m. in Berkeley, California. Gifts in that package included LEGO Super Heroes Captain America Building Kit, a Hallmark card, Greek yogurt and shampoo.

Overall, the top selling items for Amazon customers included the new Echo Dot, fashion accessories from Carhartt and Bose QuietComfort Wireless Headphones. Did you get one?
