The presents are unwrapped, the family’s still in town and winter break looms over South Florida. But here comes one more holiday gift: Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach counties boast a bounty of free events.

Sure, you can still drop big bucks on the “Downtown Abbey” exhibition or empty your wallet on Christmas pop-up bars, but can we agree that the best post-holiday activity is spending nothing at all?

So stop streaming Netflix – “The Great British Baking Show” will still be there when you return – and start taking in these free outdoor experiences.

George H.W. Bush Room Ongoing at Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum, 4000 W. Perimeter Road, Fort Lauderdale; 954-359-4400 (by appointment only) or NASFLMuseum.com

George Herbert Walker Bush, who died Nov. 30, was steeped in South Florida history long before his climb to the presidency. The museum’s Bush Room is a re-creation of Bush’s soldier barracks from 1943, when the young ensign stationed and trained at the Naval Air Station. As a 19-year-old Navy pilot, Bush trained on the Grumman TBF Avenger, a torpedo bomber, and Bush was piloting an Avenger when he was shot down over the South Pacific in September 1944, a year after leaving South Florida. Items from Bush’s actual barracks have been preserved in the room, including photos and clothing.

Manatee Lagoon 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday at Manatee Lagoon, 6000 N. Flagler Drive, Riviera Beach; 561-626-2833 or VisitManateeLagoon.com

It’s practically a pastime if you live around Palm Beach. Each winter, dozens of manatees flock to the Florida Power and Light-operated Manatee Lagoon, huddling close to the warm water discharge the FPL plant creates. The power plant is perched near the lagoon on the north end of Flagler Drive. During the winter months (manatee season runs Nov. 15-March 31), these threatened mammals migrate south for warmth, which means now is the perfect time to spot sea cows. The Manatee Lagoon center, meanwhile, will teach visitors about manatee ecosystems and eating habits.

Sunlit Sky Through March 10 at Giralda Plaza, on the 100 block of Giralda Avenue, Coral Gables; free via Eventbrite.com; CoralGables.com

Snapping selfies under the rainbow-hued Umbrella Sky in Coral Gables probably blew up your Instagram over the summer, but the successor to that project is now bathing Giralda Plaza in shimmering gold. We’re not kidding: “Sunlit Sky,” which debuted Dec. 14 from Sextafeira, the same Portuguese artists behind Umbrella Sky, have suspended 27,500 gold and silver metallic strips over the plaza, which shimmer and dance in the breeze.

Wynwood Walls’ ‘Beyond Words’ 10:30-11:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10:30 a.m.midnight Friday and Saturday and 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday at Wynwood Walls, 2520 NW Second Ave., Miami; 305-531-4411 or TheWynwoodWalls.com

Upgrade your selfie game at this popular tourist crawl, worth revisiting this month thanks to the debut of nine new murals during December’s Art Basel week. The “Beyond Words” murals include new works by KOBRA (Brazil), Ron English (Illinois) and VHILs (Portugal), the latter noteworthy for his wall “portraits” created by drilling and carving into buildings with power tools.
